After months of discussion, Obama finally gave his commencement address at Notre Dame University today. Due to a near fascistic exercise on the part of the ND administration, the event was virtually free of any signs of protest, and Obama made full use of the event to do his “don’t you wish you could be as moderate and measured as I am” shtick which we know so well from the campaign. The text is as follows:
Hattip to Gateway Pundit. Well, the leaked text of the honorary degree awarded to Obama was accurate. The awarding of such a degree to the most pro-abortion president in our nation’s history was of course an abomination. However, just from the stand-point of academic self-respect, it astonishes me that this text, which reads like a piece of campaign literature written by a starry-eyed student volunteer, was used. I am glad though that the text was utilized however. It adds the necessary farcial touch to these proceedings, and makes it impossible for anyone with any integrity to argue that Jenkins and the Notre Dame administration did not intend to pay homage of the most lickspittle type to Obama.
A letter written by John W. Yanta, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Amarillo, to President Jenkins of Notre Dame on Good Friday. The text of the letter was released last week.
Father John Jenkins, CSC, President
Notre Dame University
Notre Dame, Indiana
I am writing this letter to you early Good Friday morning, April 10. I am trying to make holy this Holy Week by immersing myself completely into the agony, sufferings and disappointments endured by Jesus my Lord and Redeemer for me and for all mankind.
Bringing to mind the story Abraham Lincoln used to tell about a young man who killed his father and mother and then begged that the court would have mercy on a poor orphan, President Obama now seeks to pose as a deficit hawk:
“President Barack Obama, calling current deficit spending “unsustainable,” warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries.
We can’t keep on just borrowing from China,” Obama said at a town-hall meeting in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, outside Albuquerque. “We have to pay interest on that debt, and that means we are mortgaging our children’s future with more and more debt.”
Holders of U.S. debt will eventually “get tired” of buying it, causing interest rates on everything from auto loans to home mortgages to increase, Obama said. “It will have a dampening effect on our economy.”
