The White Cliffs of Dover

Something for the weekend.  The unforgettable Vera Lynn singing the White Cliffs of Dover.  Ah, Britain during the war years of World War II, a fascinating place.  A hilarious comedy set during those years played on the BBC in the sixties and seventies, Dad’s Army.

Following the  misadventures of a hapless Home Guard unit during World War II, the Dad’s Army series also cast an affectionate glance back at those early days of the War when Great Britain stood alone against one of the most hideous tyrannies devised by fallen Man.  My great uncle Bill, who joined the Royal Army in 1939 because, as he put it, “Someone has to show the Limeys how to fight!”, and who served until the end of the war, loved the show and thought it captured the period well.
