Pelosi, Saint Joseph and the Catholic Medical Association

Yeah, the Lying Worthless Political Hack, aka Nancy Pelosi, actually does invoke Saint Joseph in her effort to pass the pro-abort Senate version of ObamaCare, and she also throws in the sisters and nuns who have lent their support to passing this bill.  Invoking Saint Joseph, who initially wanted to release the pregnant Mary from her betrothal to him quietly so as to protect her and the unborn child she carried from stoning, on behalf of a pro-abort bill plums new depths for the Lying Worthless Political Hack.  Of course, she can’t even keep feast days straight.  As Ed Morrissey of Hot Air points out, and a hattip to him, this is of course not the feast day of Saint Joseph the Worker, which is May 1, but this is not the first time that the Lying Worthless Political Hack has things Catholic all fouled up. Catholicism for the Lying Worthless Political Hack is merely something to use on occasion as a political prop and not something to live by.

As Ed Morrissey mentions, the Catholic Medical Association has issued a statement today in strong opposition to the Senate version of ObamaCare.  Here is the statement:

Statement on Health-Care Reform and Authentic Catholic Witness.

As the Democrat party accelerates efforts to enact comprehensive health-care legislation before the Easter recess, the Catholic Health Association, leaders of women’s religious orders, and academics at Catholic institutions have endorsed Senate bill H.R. 3590 and called for the House of Representatives to pass this bill as-is. In so doing, they have intentionally and publicly contradicted the policy position of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

The Catholic Medical Association (CMA) agrees with the conclusion of Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M., that these groups “have done a grave disservice to the American Catholic community by undermining the leadership of the nation’s Catholic bishops, sowing confusion among faithful Catholics, and misleading legislators through their support of the Senate bill.” Should this political ploy prove successful in persuading some legislators to vote for this flawed bill, these individuals and groups will have done a grave disservice to human dignity and to the common good of this nation.

Senate bill H.R. 3590 is a substantially flawed and unacceptable piece of legislation. Its policy positions on abortion and conscience rights alone warrant rejecting the entire bill. The evidence is clear that:

•The Stupak amendment is absolutely essential if massive new funding of abortion is to be prevented;

•Governmental subsidies for abortion increase the abortion rate;

•Senate bill H.R. 3590 provides multiple new streams of funding for abortion;

•Key proponents of abortion, including President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Henry Waxman and Kathleen Sebelius, specifically reject the Stupak amendment and understand that Senate bill H.R. 3590 effectively circumvents its provisions;

•Senate bill H.R. 3590 does not include the most fundamental conscience rights protection under current law – the Hyde-Weldon amendment’s protection against being coerced to participate in abortion by a governmental entity;

•Senate bill H.R. 3590 requires all enrollees in health insurance plans covering abortion to pay, separately and exclusively, for abortions obtained by other plan participants.

Given this evidence above, it is difficult to understand how some Catholics could lobby in favor of such legislation. Given the significance of the issues at stake, and the consistent, compelling policy guidance provided by the U.S. bishops on these matters, publicly opposing and/or undermining the U.S. bishops at this time is imprudent and uncharitable.

The CMA holds that there are multiple other serious failings in the health-care legislation and legislative process of the last year. To name only three:

•Senate and House legislation relies heavily on the federal government to dictate solutions for the real problems in U.S. health-care financing and delivery, an approach that is flawed in principle and ineffective, if not dangerous, in practice. Such an approach would violate the principle of subsidiarity  further undermine the physician-patient relationship, and represent a failure to learn from the ongoing systemic problems affecting Medicare and Medicaid.

•Senate bill H.R. 3590 refuses to make any advance in effecting a more just and constructive solution to the health care access challenges faced by immigrants.

•The current legislative approach is unsustainable from an economic standpoint. Enacting it would represent not only poor stewardship, but an injustice to future generations.

Given the considerations presented above, the Catholic Medical Association calls upon all Catholics, particularly those who have recently lobbied publicly in favor of H.R. 3590, to demonstrate unity and charity in opposing the central flaws in current legislation and in working together to achieve authentic health-care reform in a timely manner.

Perhaps the Lying Worthless Political Hack will take time from her schedule to read and ponder this statement.  On the feast day of Saint Joseph one can hope for a miracle, although that would be a rather large one.

Update: The Anchoress memorably takes the Lying Worthless Political Hack to task here.

I’m not sure which is worse: Pelosi’s simony; Pelosi’s ignorance of Catholicism; or the nagging fear that all this politicking will drag on until May 1.

  2. RL says:

    “…pass this life affirming legislation.”

We have got to make a lot of reparations this Lent.

  5. Jim says:

There is a special place in hell waiting for this woman. Is it a sin to pray that God strike her with a bolt of lightning ?

    God warns Giuliani with lightning!

  6. American Knight says:

Whose fault is it that this poor Catholic is so poorly catechized?

Can we really blame her? She’s busy, she doesn’t have time to learn the faith.

It isn’t that bad – she knows that she is an ‘ardent’ Catholic, killing babies is not only good economics but it spares them the problem of actual sin so its merciful and she’d make a good pope.

We need to pray for this fool while we thwart her diabolical plan. I wonder if she goes to Penance. Actually, I wonder if she knows what penance is.

  7. Jay Anderson says:

She mocks our Faith. She mocks our Bishops. Every time this ignorant, lying, blasphemous POS opens her mouth and mentions her “Catholic” faith, she creates confusion and scandal.

Seriously, what more does someone have to do to merit the severest form of sanction from our Shepherds, who are supposed to be protecting their flocks from wolves in sheep’s clothing like this vile woman?

I don’t intend for this to become an opportunity to question our Bishops who have done a stellar job in educating Catholics and the public at large as to where the health care bill falls short. But those months of educational efforts are clearly insufficient when they can be undone by 2 or 3 days of so-called “Catholics” coming out of the woodwork in opposition to the Bishops and creating confusion about what the authoritative and authentic Catholic stance is?

When will our Bishops finally say “Enough!” to these voices of dissent whose words and deeds continue to make it possible to systematically victimize the least of the least of these?

  8. Donald R. McClarey says:

Well said Jay! All of us, Bishops, Priests, Nuns, Sisters, Brothers and Laity alike, have to speak out against her and her attempts to twist the Faith for her political advantage.

  9. Elaine Krewer says:

I am so sick of seeing and hearing about the Lying Worthless Political Hack. Can we please find a pro-life, faithful, Catholic woman in politics to write about? Or are they as extinct as dodoes and passenger pigeons?

  10. Donald R. McClarey says:

“The Pope and Nancy Pelosi are on stage in front of a huge crowd.

The Pope leans towards Mrs. Pelosi and says, “Do you know that with one wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, like that of your followers, but it will go deep into their hearts. And for the rest of their lives, whenever they speak of this day they will rejoice!”

Pelosi replied, “I seriously doubt that with one little wave of your hand you can do that. Show me.”

    So the Pope slapped her.”

  11. Elaine Krewer says:

“This is of course not the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker, which is May 1”

Apparently, Pelosi also forgot, or never knew, that the main reason the feast of St. Joseph the Worker was created in the first place was to invoke his aid AGAINST communism… why else would his feast be on “May Day”?

It stands to reason that St. Joseph the Worker would intercede against anything that even remotely smacked of communism, socialism, or the encroachment of the state upon the works of the church… like, for instance, the healthcare bill.

  12. Donald R. McClarey says:

Good observation Elaine. Pelosi probably has absolutely no clue.

  13. Donna V. says:

I am so sick of seeing and hearing about the Lying Worthless Political Hack. Can we please find a pro-life, faithful, Catholic woman in politics to write about? Or are they as extinct as dodoes and passenger pigeons?

Oh, so am I, Elaine. The problem is that the Lying Worthless Political Hack holds an incredible amount of power over our lives right now. Come November, that will no longer be true, because she’ll be the Minority Leader then.

Donald has been much more optimistic about the failure of Obamacare than I have been. I fear that Pelosi will get her votes – but I implore the spineless Republicans – campaign on REPEAL! This bill has been passed in such a dodgy, banana-republic way that repeal should be an easy sell. Unfortunately, there are Republicans out there so afraid of being branded as “the party of NO” (even when “NO” is an entirely rational response) that they are waffling on that. GOP, if you had defended your core principles, there would be no calls for a third party now! If the GOP cannot commit to campaigning against an unpopular and ruinously expensive program, I really will despair of them.

  14. Donna V. says:

You know, if I was in to coldblooded calculation, I’d favor this bill. I am a middle-aged single woman – a demographic that normally votes Democrat. I have no children, so why should I care about the huge burden being passed on to future generations? I’ve have to pay some rather major healthcare bills during the past few years, so I should be delighted at the prospect of “free” healthcare.

Except that I know nothing is “free.” And I look at my nieces and nephews, the ones who will be footing the bill for me and the other “tail-end boomers” and I don’t see why they should be saddled with such an onerous burden.

Then I hear my 22 year old nephew sing the praises of Obama, and I’m tempted to think “Well, why not?” Isn’t it ironic – the generation that will be doomed to a life of poverty because of Dem spending is the generation most firmly attached to the Teleprompter Messiah. I actually -in the short term -have something to gain from this and I oppose it deeply, while the kids who will be paying through the nose chirp, “But he’s so dreamy!” Gen X was called the “Slacker Generation.” Perhaps today’s 20-somethings should be called “The Sucker Generation.”

  15. Kevin in Texas says:

    Hi Donna,

The problem w/ the “repeal it” argument, even if Republicans take back both houses of Congress in December (which they may be able to do if this monstrosity passes this weekend), is that the President still has the power of the veto pen, and I can’t really imagine that Republicans will have a veto-proof majority of 2/3 of the House and Senate, even in a best-case scenario.

No, unfortunately we MUST stop this now, not hope that we can repeal it later. Prayer and fasting–it’s no coincidence this is all happening during Lent, I believe. God does have a sense of irony.

  16. Marie says:

Well, St. Joseph is St. Joseph, whether you refer to him as “the worker,” or “foster father of Christ.” And he does have two feastdays – so what?

I also don’t believe that Nancy Pelosi is not catechized enough. She knows the Catholic faith. (I happened to have known her spiritual director, a Franciscan priest who died last year.)

The trouble is – Pelosi intentionally mocks her religion. She hates the Church and knowingly insults fellow Catholics. All for the love of power.

The Lord says pray for your enemy. And so we must.

  17. gb says:

You’re right, Marie, we must pray for our enemies.
That admonition always reminds me of one of the opening scenes from “Fiddler on the Roof” when the town rabbi is asked if there is a prayer for the czar. He says, “Yes. God bless and keep the czar, far away from us.”
That’s about as much as I can say for Pelosi, Biden, Sebelius et al right now. Sorry. Their sins against voiceless preborn children cry out to heaven much more loudly than Obama and his minions because they know (or should know) better. To whom much has been given, much will be expected.

  18. T. Shaw says:

It’s all about political power and devolving the economy and populace into dependency and desperation so the pols can get perennially re-electd.

The government already has seized too much power and is gradually seizing more discretion over our incomes, our lives and our properties.

This (health care takeover) is one more milestone on the road to absolute federal power. Soon, they will be able to centrally plan the economy (even more than they can now). Absolute control and central planning.

We’ve seen how well that worked everywhere it was tried. But, they will answer those attempts weren’t “managed” by geniuses like Nazi Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, Rahm Emmanuel, and Obama!

Sorry, I stepped away from the religious aspects of the question.

BTW: neither Herod nor Judas are the patrons of abortion. Satan is the patron demon of abortion and the democrat party.

  19. Cathy says:

Nancy Pelosi is truly the Wicked Witch of the West.

  20. Dear Mr. McClarey:
I hope someday you may experience the love and peace of Jesus. I pray for you. Peace.

  21. Donald R. McClarey says:

Why thank you Frederick, kind prayers are always appreciated. Perhaps you will join me in a prayer that someday pro-aborts will understand that when Christ said “Suffer the little children” He didn’t mean what they obviously must think He meant.

  22. ciao says:

All that is happening right now has been coming for a long time. We get comfortable and don’t really want to hear about big brother and the smothering, godless, liberal agenda making small strides every year since contraception and Roe vs Wade became the law of the land. A steady, deliberate progression of blurring the line between God and man. Graying the area of good and evil. It goes without saying that Catholics have been lulled to sleep in schools, colleges, media, print media, in science and psychology and political correctness to the point of not seeing the wolf coming in sheeps clothing because maybe the wolf could be right? (type thinking). We look to our Church for help. Bishops help us,priests help us, you don’t hear much, just a little bit now and then. If the bill passes, it’s too late. The great harm is done. The proponents of the bill will seize the power and run with it. Yes, pray, not for more blessings, but for Divine Mercy.

  23. Elaine Krewer says:

“The Pope and Nancy Pelosi are on stage in front of a huge crowd…”

Another classic political joke that would fit Madame Pelosi very well is this:

Nancy Pelosi visits an Indian reservation where she tells the tribe members about all the wonderful things the Obamacare plan will do for them. Afterward, the tribe makes her an honorary member with the name “Walking Eagle.” Just as she is leaving, one tribe member asks the chief why she was given that name. The chief said “Because a walking eagle is a bird so full of (bleep) it can’t fly!”

  24. Donald R. McClarey says:

  25. jajoyce says:

Why in the world are the U.S bishops allowing these statements by Pelosi, as well as these nuns, to continue their disrespect for the teaching of the Catholic Church. My goodness! Wake up Bishops! Show some solidarity and backbone! The martyrs and early defenders of the church, lost their lives to defend the church. All you must do is just show leadership and zero tolerence, followed by excommunication by these bad apples. They have been warned over and over again about twisting and lying about church doctrine. The Bishop, in San Francisco, needs to divorce her from any further harming of the church. If anyone in the Congress and Senate continued to falsify, the rules of the House, they would be no-longer allowed to represent their respective state! Pope John Paul 11, stood before the communist, in Poland. Knowing very well, he could be taken out by a bullet. They tried, but thanks to the intervention of the Blessed Mother, John Paul 11, survived and communisn fell. The leaders of Catholic Church, whether they like it or not, are looked upon by the flock as the leaders for spiritual growth. As Jesus preached and John Paul 11 emphasized over and over again; Be not Afraid!

  26. Tito Edwards says:

Their (Catholic Democrats) sins against voiceless preborn children cry out to heaven much more loudly than Obama and his minions because they know (or should know) better.

    They should know better.

Lucifer is firing up that grill!

    Hah hah!

If the bishops would speak out against abortion, we would have it eliminated by the end of this new decade.

But they won’t because they want to be “liked”. That or they’re spineless cowards.
