A Map Of How Americans View Europe

This is a somewhat humorous map of how Americans view Europe.

A Geography of Prejudice is one way of calling what Yanko Tsvetkov created.

Interesting to note that Yugoslavia is ‘Resident Evil’.  My best guess is that it represents the main actress in the movie ‘Resident Evil’, Milla Jovovich.  Miss Jovovich is of Serbian descent, which Serbia was part of Yugoslavia.

The rest of the map is self-explanatory.

Mr. Tsvetkov made other maps such as how the Brits view Europe:

There’s also how the French view Europe:

Here’s how the Germans view Europe:

There are a couple more, but I’ll highlight the most humorous and interesting points.

The Dutch come off looking pretty bad all the way around.  They’re viewed as Sodom, Weed, Gays, Gras(s), Canada, Drugs, and Hash. Pretty much an immoral society.

The French aren’t as bad as the Dutch, but it isn’t any better.  They’re viewed as Smelly People, RV$sies*, Cheese and Other Perfumes, and Twinkreich.

Europe as a whole come off as Latter-Day-Commies.  Europeans as viewed by other Europeans are the Union of Subsidized Farmers and the Evil Federated Empire of Europe.

Other notable stereotypes are Sweden is ABBA, Spain is Italian Dialects, Poland is a Papal State, the Czech Republic is Beer Land, the UK are the Enigma Code Breakers and Godless Traitors, Italy is Pizza and Museums, and ironically France calls Germany Best Friends and the UK as Slayers of Virgins (Saint Joan of Arc).

Have we sunk to a new low in base humor and at American Catholic no less. I suppose there is no shame left.

The maps are funny…the Brits are funny in veiwing each place by comfort and food. It stereotypes and a bit bigoted. I wonder how much perception is due to media versus actual experience…racism is world-wide.

Well, I thought it was funny. Please. It IS funny, people.
